Get the look – Hetti Bywater British Soap Awards 2012

Another year another soap awards, and another beautiful look to create for the red carpet…

In 2012, Hetti Bywater started as the new Lucy Beale on Eastenders and boy is she pretty! I was so excited to do her make-up, with those gorgeous doe-eyes and full pouty lips, this girl is a perfect canvas for any make-up artist.

We chose to base her look on the smoky eyes of Kiera Knightly. Sexy, sultry yet classy and elegant, which would flatter the long dark gown she would be wearing perfectly. The stylist Nina Sobers, worked with designer Tina Lobondi, who made this dress especially for Hetti, and her hair was created by session stylist Vicki Lord.

BEAUTIFUL SKIN

Hetti Bywater has gorgeous fair skin, as does Keira Knightly, so the look was easily recreated. I wanted the skin to look glowing – fair, but warm and lightly flushed with a hint of peachy colour. I also wanted to keep the texture of the skin soft and velvety.

I primed Hetti’s skin with Lancome’s La Base:

Using Chantecaille foundation in porcelain I used a fibre optic brush to buff it onto Hett’s skin using circular motions starting from the centre of her face and blending it out towards the outer edge of her face and dusted her skin with a light translucent powder to create a smooth base for her blush.

I used a soft peachy bronze (Chanel Desert Corail), to contour Hetti’s cheeks, and to add a soft glow to her forehead, nose, chin and neck.

Followed by a soft peach blush on the highest points of her cheekbones.

Smoky Eyes

I first prepped Hetti’s eyes with BareMineral’s Prime Time eyelid primer, to ensure that the make-up would stay put, and crease-free all night. It also evens out the tone of the eyelid, much like a foundation does to the skin.

I then applied a champagne, skin toned shadow with a pearly texture (not shimmery), all over Hetti’s eyelids and up to the brow bone.

Next, I applied a mid-tone brown into the crease of Hetti’s eyes only, blending it outwards rather than upwards to elongate her eyes.

I lined Hetti’s upper and lower lashline with MAC’s Dip down brown gel liner and softened the lines with a smudge brush. I was careful to press the product into the lashline rather than wiping it across, so that it created an illusion of depth and thick lushious lashes.

Taking a small contour brush, I darkened the outer corners of Hetti’s eyes with a deep chocolate brown matt shadow, pushing the product from the outer corner of the eye inwards, and also into the crease of her eyes, blending all the time to ensure there were no hard lines. I also followed the liner top and bottom to give it a smoky effect.

I lined the waterline of Hetti’s eyes with a dark brown wax liner by Maxfactor and finished with false lashes, and lashings of mascara.

I wanted to keep the eyes the emphasis, and so added a nude stain to Hetti’s lips with Dior’s Beige Indecise lipstick.

I kept the look velvety soft by finishing with a dusting of translucent powder.

Model Henrietta Wears Emily Rose Lipstick

Whilst doing make-up for a Tesco commercial last week I met beautiful model Henrietta, who is pictured here with me. She is wearing one of my new all-natural vegan lipstick shades (Code: Ls05) PHOENIX ORCHID.

The sultry, red-burgundy shade complimented Henrietta’s olive skin tone, dark features, and her sparkling white teeth incredibly, giving her an overall sultry look.

See below the image for a few tips on how to wear the Phoenix Orchid lipstick either for during the day or in the evening.

DAY use it as a stain during the day, patting the colour into your lips, and why not use the same shade for your cheeks too?  Use your finger tip to blend a small amount onto the high point of your cheeks, and blend out over the apple.

PHOENIX ORCHID is a fabulous colour for the day or evening time.

DAY  Use it as a stain during the day, patting the colour into your lips, and why not use the same shade for your cheeks too?  Use your finger tip to blend a small amount onto the high point of your cheeks, and blend out over the apple.

EVENING For a glamorous evening look, just simply slide the lipstick onto your lips directly from the tube.  This will give a vibrant, striking colour.

Ginvera Green Tea Whitening Marvel Gel – plus skin care tips from make-up expert Emily Rose

Just over a month ago I received Ginvera Green Tea Whitening Marvel Gel. I was asked by the company themselves to test and review the product… as a beauty expert and product fan, I was naturally happy to oblige!

The packaging of this product is fresh and clean, and I like the colour of the tube too – again very fresh.

Overall, I am seriously impressed by this skin care product, after using it for just one week I already felt a massive difference in not only the texture of my skin, but it’s appearance too.

The aim of Ginvera Green Tea Whitening Marvel Gel is to eliminate blackheads by gently rubbing them away, it also claims to:

  • Rub away deep layers of dead skin cells.
  • Contract pores for refined skin (As dead skin cells have been cleared from the pores).
  • Lighten black spots, freckles & scars.
  • Remove oil seeds.
  • Regulate sebum secretion to prevent pimples.
  • Brighten dull complexion.
  • Change dark, rough skin to smooth skin.
  • Whiten skin as it gives way to new born skin.
  • Enhance quick absorption of skin care products.

As a make-up artist, I am well aware that regularly removing dead skin cells through the use of exfoliation prevents breakouts and rough patchy skin. I have always advised that we do not over exfoliate, because it may lead to damage rather than good, and also can lead to an enhanced production of sebum thus producing more conjestion – leading to blackheads, whiteheads  and greasier skin. However, Ginvera Green Tea Whitening Marvel Gel is so gentle to apply, that I really found benefit in using it once daily.

Initially, it is strange to get used to, because you apply it to dry skin in circular motions with your finger tips – you can literally feel your dead skin cells lifting from the surface.  It reminds me of that feeling when you massage cream into your skin after being on a hot holiday and getting sunburnt and areas of skin start to rub away.  As you massage the gel into your skin it forms little bits on the surface of your skin whilst rubbing away dead skin cells with it.

I cleanse only at night, and then use water in the morning, so that I don’t over cleanse and dry my skin out. I choose to cleanse at nighttime because we gather so much dirt from the air on our faces throughout the day, need to remove any make-up worn, plus our skin is most active at night and will really reap the benefits of being nourished.

If you think of the times you’ve had your hair washed at the hairdressers, they wash it twice – once to remove the surface dirt and the second to deep cleanse – now apply the same technique to your skin. I use the product once to remove make-up and the second to really deep cleanse.

To use Ginvera Green Tea Whitening Marvel Gel: use on a dry face with dry fingers. Use about a 5-pence size dot, and dot it onto your forehead, cheeks, chin, nose and neck. Massage the gel into your skin using circular motions for about one minute and rinse off with luke-warm water.

I would recommend doing this over a sink or towel, as the skin rubs away it tends to fall off the face!

The things I love most about this product are…

  • The way in which it makes my skin feel incredibly soft after every use.
  • The fact that it really has kept my skin clear.
  • The bright, luminous appearance that it has left my skin with.

If you have sensitive skin, be sure to investigate the ingredients within the product further before using it, although a fantastic product, it does contain some synthetic ingredients.

I, myself am an advocate of all natural products, and for this reason will always research any synthetic ingredients used to ensure that they have been approved ‘safe to use’ by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel. Because this product is an exfoliant, and it does contain synthetic ingredients, I would suggest using it for short periods at a time, whilst using it daily MAYBE harmless, I don’t recommend continuous exfoliation. I feel that all natural products have far more benefit over long periods of time. This is a great in-between product to give your skin a boost.
