Get the look – Hetti Bywater British Soap Awards 2012

Another year another soap awards, and another beautiful look to create for the red carpet…

In 2012, Hetti Bywater started as the new Lucy Beale on Eastenders and boy is she pretty! I was so excited to do her make-up, with those gorgeous doe-eyes and full pouty lips, this girl is a perfect canvas for any make-up artist.

We chose to base her look on the smoky eyes of Kiera Knightly. Sexy, sultry yet classy and elegant, which would flatter the long dark gown she would be wearing perfectly. The stylist Nina Sobers, worked with designer Tina Lobondi, who made this dress especially for Hetti, and her hair was created by session stylist Vicki Lord.

BEAUTIFUL SKIN

Hetti Bywater has gorgeous fair skin, as does Keira Knightly, so the look was easily recreated. I wanted the skin to look glowing – fair, but warm and lightly flushed with a hint of peachy colour. I also wanted to keep the texture of the skin soft and velvety.

I primed Hetti’s skin with Lancome’s La Base:

Using Chantecaille foundation in porcelain I used a fibre optic brush to buff it onto Hett’s skin using circular motions starting from the centre of her face and blending it out towards the outer edge of her face and dusted her skin with a light translucent powder to create a smooth base for her blush.

I used a soft peachy bronze (Chanel Desert Corail), to contour Hetti’s cheeks, and to add a soft glow to her forehead, nose, chin and neck.

Followed by a soft peach blush on the highest points of her cheekbones.

Smoky Eyes

I first prepped Hetti’s eyes with BareMineral’s Prime Time eyelid primer, to ensure that the make-up would stay put, and crease-free all night. It also evens out the tone of the eyelid, much like a foundation does to the skin.

I then applied a champagne, skin toned shadow with a pearly texture (not shimmery), all over Hetti’s eyelids and up to the brow bone.

Next, I applied a mid-tone brown into the crease of Hetti’s eyes only, blending it outwards rather than upwards to elongate her eyes.

I lined Hetti’s upper and lower lashline with MAC’s Dip down brown gel liner and softened the lines with a smudge brush. I was careful to press the product into the lashline rather than wiping it across, so that it created an illusion of depth and thick lushious lashes.

Taking a small contour brush, I darkened the outer corners of Hetti’s eyes with a deep chocolate brown matt shadow, pushing the product from the outer corner of the eye inwards, and also into the crease of her eyes, blending all the time to ensure there were no hard lines. I also followed the liner top and bottom to give it a smoky effect.

I lined the waterline of Hetti’s eyes with a dark brown wax liner by Maxfactor and finished with false lashes, and lashings of mascara.

I wanted to keep the eyes the emphasis, and so added a nude stain to Hetti’s lips with Dior’s Beige Indecise lipstick.

I kept the look velvety soft by finishing with a dusting of translucent powder.

Winter Glow

Who ever said winter has to be cold and miserable? I love winter for it’s festive feeling, and for the chance to really go glam with our make-up. In the winter, due to the lower level of light, we can get away with deeper, super sultry shades. These have a slightly editorial magazine-feel about them. So it’s a very exciting time of year, with loads of room to experiment with colours we may not usually dare to wear. Our skin loses it’s natural tan during the winter months when the sun is less strong, but for those of us who prefer that sun kissed to porcelain appearence, we can really fake it, so good that it’s got to be real!

During the cold winter months our skin needs some serious tender love, and care. Even if it doesn’t feel dry, it’ll be fighting to stay moisturised beneath the tough surface layer that we see. It’s really important to moisturise daily and exfoliate once a week. The look we want to achieve is a dewy, glowing complexion right? So…

Apply moisturiser before any other make-up – something light weight and easily absorbed, I LOVE  elemental herbology cell plumping facial hydrator, which also contains SPF 8. Available in Space NK.

Smooth this over your face and neck, there’s no need to wait for it to absorb until you apply your foundation, it actually adds to the glow of the finished look.

Referring to Paula’s image above, I then applied Chantecaille foundation – future skin, [also available in Space NK], to the centre of her face, blending it out towards the edge of her face, but not directly applying at the edge. Skin rarely needs full coverage at the sides of our faces and this is what can cause foundation to look mask like.

I next used Laura Mercier secret camouflage to conceal any blemishes, making them invisible to the eye.  Using my fingers I patted in the concealer over the blemishes and then used a fine brush for small detail.

To give Paula’s skin a really sun-kissed appearance, I smoothed Laura Mercier’s bronzing gel over her forehead, cheeks, bridge of nose, chin and neck.

To finish, and to leave her skin with a lovely glow I added a touch of natural, rose-coloured bronzer onto the apples of Paula’s cheeks.

I applied Chanel’s cream shadow in silver grey, which has annoyingly now been discontinued even though it was the best cream shadow ever made!! It was more like a moose gel than a cream, never creasing – AMAZING! I smoothed the colour over Paula’s lower lid and blended away into her crease using a fluffy brush, I then swept the colour over Paula’s lower lash line.

Next I patted a silver shadow by Dior over the top of the cream shadow on Paula’s lower lid.

Followed by sweeping the purple shadow into the crease of both of her eyelids.

I finished the look with black gel liner smudged through the upper and lower lash line, and by applying a natural, sheer colour berry lipstick by Dior for a healthy kissable grin. (http://di1-3.shoppingshadow.com)

This look is such a pretty look to brighten up those grey winter days, so have fun playing :)
