Celebrity Elen Rivas underwater photo shoot

Image

A few months back I was asked to be part of the team for an underwater photo shoot with celebrity Elen Rivas. The shoot was for the front cover of Holistic Therapist magazine.
Underwater make-up was certainly a brand new experience for me, and great fun! I have to say a tricky make-up to master in terms of coverage, a second go round I would have worked much more lightly, however, even make-up artists never stop learning. Beneath the water lighting was set up much the same as it would be in a studio environment, when applying the make-up I needed to consider both the intensity of the lighting and the reflection from the water which would diffuse the colour of the make-up thus making it appear less. The biggest thing that I learnt from this shoot is that in-fact make-up could be applied with the same intensity as you would use in a studio environment, which would have been totally visible enough. I also had to consider my products, water would obviously melt away standard make-up within the first few takes, so
I opted for Kryolan grease-paint make-up which is waterproof and oil based. I also used an oil based foundation.
I applied waxy lipstick to the lips which was fab, followed by glitter which was tricky because it kept coming off in the water, I had to re-apply it after every dip!

I applied a baby blue grease-paint all over Elen’s eyelids up to the brow bone, a dark blue in the crease, and a gold highlight in the inner corners of her eyes. I wanted to mimic the colour and texture of the water and also tie it in with the hair piece and dress.
I applied Navy blue to Elen’s lash line and finished with clear mascara.

I applied a pink waxy lipstick to Elen’s lips, and then pressed a purple/pink gltter on top of that.

I used the same pink lipstick on Elen’s cheeks.

Vicki Lord was the amazing hairstylist on board, and Nina Sober’s supplied the gorgeous dress.

Elen did fabulously, firstly the water was pretty cold even though it was shot in a swimming pool! The fantastic model that Elen is had to concentrate on ensuring that her hair was beneath water, that her pose was perfect, and hold her breath at the same time! Very talented indeed!
The whole team worked amazingly, finishing at around midnight after a very creative few hours :) Roll on the next underwater photo shoot!

Wedding Make-up Kent & London with Wedding Make-up Artist Emily Rose

Oh how I do love weddings! It has to be one of the most magical feelings in the world, to wake up adoring my job every single day. Knowing that I am such a large part of a bride’s special day, is fabulous.
On my own wedding day I chose to do my own makeup, my 5 bridesmaids and my mother! Looking back on the morning I can now see why hiring a wedding make-up artist to apply your wedding make-up is worth it’s weight in gold, Whilst I enjoyed doing it and filling up my morning, the time & relaxation element was somewhat pushed to the limit.
The experience enhanced my skill set as a wedding make-up artist even further, I am able to fully understand the emotion that runs through a bride’s mind whilst they prepare to marry the man they will spend the rest of their lives with, and as a result feel completely at ease creating a wonderfully calm atmosphere for them.

The trial is very important, it gives me a chance to meet and build a relationship with my bride and ensure that I create exactly what she desires. My philosophy is simple – this is your perfect day, and I will work with you until you feel absolutely perfect. My aim is that you walk down the aisle feeling an absolute princess, and what this means to each bride differs, what each bride likes in terms of make-up can be totally opposite to the next person and that is absolutely ok! The important thing is to reflect you!
Whether that means creating a timeless make-up look that won’t date, or a completely out there fashion make-up, or a subtle barely there but radiant make-up, we will create exactly what makes you feel beautiful.

I work with only the highest quality products to achieve your flawless glow. These range across various brands, as each brand has something different and exciting to offer. If I had to pick my most favourite product currently in my kit, it would be Chantecaille Foundation (£58 SpaceNK), it’s unique gel formula gives sheer, build-able coverage and that all important red carpet celebrity, expensive looking skin, and the best part? It’ll last absolutely all day and all night, well tried and tested!

I cover all areas of kent and London for wedding make-up and have vast experience as a wedding make-up artist working with every skin type and colour.

Please visit my website www.emilyrosemakeupartist.co.uk for further information, and feel free to contact me with any enquiries. I am also happy to travel for wedding make-up abroad.

The revelation of Male Grooming, by London make-up artist Emily Rose

It could be said that David Beckham is the giant behind the successful growth of male grooming, the acceptance of not only skin care and treatments, but of make-up too. Acceptance is quickly transforming into an actual appreciation. Gone are the days of the scruffy male sporting rough, dry hands and chapped lips. Guys, women simply love the well groomed man. Make-up for men has actually been around for many years, but is now so invisible to the eye that it often goes unnoticed. Men in the media are huge examples of this. Every man you watch on television, even your biggest football, rugby and boxing legends, often wear make-up if appearing within the media. We’re not talking pink lipstick and blue eye shadow here. I’m talking about invisible, blemish free skin, tidy nails and perfect hair. For example, the boxing commercial I worked on with FedEX.

Boxing_LowRes_Preview

Years ago people’s perception of male make-up was incredibly narrow; it was associated mainly with the gay community, or cross dressers. Whilst these areas are huge, they are all somewhat very different markets.

Some guys love to go all out with their make-up, adding a more feminine twist. Others like to keep it masculine, really simple and invisible, whilst others like to enhance certain features – a tan for example. The world of male grooming is so diverse and is as masculine as it can be feminine.

So what are the benefits of male grooming?

Instant results! No more blemishes and a youthful appearance.
Tame shaving rash, ingrown hair and unruly brows!

With HD television so prominent in today’s society, grooming for men in the media is essential, in order to combat blemishes, shiny skin and dark eyes enhanced by bright lights and the camera. The products used for men are developed in such a way that they are invisible to look at, and they feel invisible too.
Perfect for the gentleman who needs a pick me up without any tell tale signs that he’s done anything at all. Or for the teen lad suffering from breakouts – Does this affect your ego and the ability to ‘pull’? Male grooming really is the way forward!
After all, products have been heading that way for women too – no one really wants to look as if they are wearing make-up – we are all naturally beautiful …

Corporate men also benefit hugely from male grooming. I am often booked for big events, conferences or for advertising purposes.
Shiny shoes, a smart suit, and well groomed skin and hair.
My husband Anton certainly has his feet firmly within the male grooming industry with Shine Corp –
The ultimate shoe shining and dry cleaning service, set in the heart of London and delivered straight to your desk!

9 Leyden Street, Whitechapel.

Adverts, films, and magazines simply wouldn’t look the same without the use of male grooming.

Not forgetting our live shows – many of these guys wear it too,

Imagine yourself before getting ready to go out on the town – fluffy hair, unshaven, and then imagine how you look and feel once you’re ready, which is the most attractive?

I’d say the latter ☺

Autumn/Winter 2012 Beauty Trend Smoky Eyes

The smoky eye never strays too far from the Autumn/Winter catwalks, and 2012′s trend sports it’s own twist of the look. This season’s colours are cool smudgy kohl’s and luscious lived in lashes. Brows are full and natural, and if desired, dramatic – simply fill them in gently with a brow wax or pencil to create a more defined brow. The catwalks are sporting block brows in some cases, however day to day I feel it is prettier to soften them using feather light strokes.

Skin is bare-faced and beautiful, a radiant sheen or a soft, matt finish with sculpted velvet bronze cheek-bones.

Lips are healthy with a soft nude or a natural lip colour using a gloss or balm for a kissable sheen.
Try a nude like Emily Rose Lipstick 20 – A soft sheen lipstick, natural & cruelty free.

I created model Lucie’s smoky eye look using Chanel Illusion d’Ombre eyeshadow, which is creamy in texture and super easy to blend. One of my all time favourites, especially for the winter party season because it contains small particles of glitter that really dazzle beneath the lights.

Simply smudge it over the lid and blend into the crease of your lids smudging it outwards slightly for a flirty winged eye. use the same shadow along your lower lash line stopping before the inner corner. Sweep a highlighter beneath your brows and into the inner corner of your eyes to make them pop.

Finish with lashings of black mascara.

TIP: Do your under eye concealer last. When we use dark shadows, you may have already noticed the amount of fall out from the eyeshadow that ends up beneath your eyes, and as a result makes the rest of your make-up look muddy. Once your shadow is done, clean up the excess beneath your eyes, and follow with a slightly light reflective concealer pen, mixed with a more full coverage concealer, beneath your eyes.

Enjoy experimenting, the great thing about this look is that it can appear ‘lived in’, you don’t need to panic about it looking perfect. The main thing to remember, is that skin mimics winter fresh, much like a beauty ad campaign. So be sure to look after it this season with a great cleanser and moisturiser.

NKOTBSB Tour: Concert O2 London

Two all time favourite bands: The Backstreet Boys and New Kids On The Block came together on 29/04/2012 at the O2 Arena in London for their huge concert, as part of their international tour. I was totally over the moon when I was asked to do the make-up for the event. It was an absolute honour to work with them, after all I grew up dancing to their music at my school discos :)

I worked alongside the lovely Fiona Tanner, hair & make-up artist. Once make-up & hair was complete and the boys burst onto the stage we were on standby with make-up brushes for touch ups… which meant we got to see the guys perform too!

Before the gig started I was lucky enough to meet the lovely Peter Andre, who had trecked over to the O2 especially to be with NKOTBSB. It was great to meet all of the boys before starting make-up.

The turn out for the gig was absolutely incredible, literally every seat in the O2 Arena was filled!

I was incredibly impressed by their performance on stage – perfect voices and the ability to make the crowd go wild. True Boybands :)

Get the look – Hetti Bywater British Soap Awards 2012

Another year another soap awards, and another beautiful look to create for the red carpet…

In 2012, Hetti Bywater started as the new Lucy Beale on Eastenders and boy is she pretty! I was so excited to do her make-up, with those gorgeous doe-eyes and full pouty lips, this girl is a perfect canvas for any make-up artist.

We chose to base her look on the smoky eyes of Kiera Knightly. Sexy, sultry yet classy and elegant, which would flatter the long dark gown she would be wearing perfectly. The stylist Nina Sobers, worked with designer Tina Lobondi, who made this dress especially for Hetti, and her hair was created by session stylist Vicki Lord.

BEAUTIFUL SKIN

Hetti Bywater has gorgeous fair skin, as does Keira Knightly, so the look was easily recreated. I wanted the skin to look glowing – fair, but warm and lightly flushed with a hint of peachy colour. I also wanted to keep the texture of the skin soft and velvety.

I primed Hetti’s skin with Lancome’s La Base:

Using Chantecaille foundation in porcelain I used a fibre optic brush to buff it onto Hett’s skin using circular motions starting from the centre of her face and blending it out towards the outer edge of her face and dusted her skin with a light translucent powder to create a smooth base for her blush.

I used a soft peachy bronze (Chanel Desert Corail), to contour Hetti’s cheeks, and to add a soft glow to her forehead, nose, chin and neck.

Followed by a soft peach blush on the highest points of her cheekbones.

Smoky Eyes

I first prepped Hetti’s eyes with BareMineral’s Prime Time eyelid primer, to ensure that the make-up would stay put, and crease-free all night. It also evens out the tone of the eyelid, much like a foundation does to the skin.

I then applied a champagne, skin toned shadow with a pearly texture (not shimmery), all over Hetti’s eyelids and up to the brow bone.

Next, I applied a mid-tone brown into the crease of Hetti’s eyes only, blending it outwards rather than upwards to elongate her eyes.

I lined Hetti’s upper and lower lashline with MAC’s Dip down brown gel liner and softened the lines with a smudge brush. I was careful to press the product into the lashline rather than wiping it across, so that it created an illusion of depth and thick lushious lashes.

Taking a small contour brush, I darkened the outer corners of Hetti’s eyes with a deep chocolate brown matt shadow, pushing the product from the outer corner of the eye inwards, and also into the crease of her eyes, blending all the time to ensure there were no hard lines. I also followed the liner top and bottom to give it a smoky effect.

I lined the waterline of Hetti’s eyes with a dark brown wax liner by Maxfactor and finished with false lashes, and lashings of mascara.

I wanted to keep the eyes the emphasis, and so added a nude stain to Hetti’s lips with Dior’s Beige Indecise lipstick.

I kept the look velvety soft by finishing with a dusting of translucent powder.

Model Henrietta Wears Emily Rose Lipstick

Whilst doing make-up for a Tesco commercial last week I met beautiful model Henrietta, who is pictured here with me. She is wearing one of my new all-natural vegan lipstick shades (Code: Ls05) PHOENIX ORCHID.

The sultry, red-burgundy shade complimented Henrietta’s olive skin tone, dark features, and her sparkling white teeth incredibly, giving her an overall sultry look.

See below the image for a few tips on how to wear the Phoenix Orchid lipstick either for during the day or in the evening.

DAY use it as a stain during the day, patting the colour into your lips, and why not use the same shade for your cheeks too?  Use your finger tip to blend a small amount onto the high point of your cheeks, and blend out over the apple.

PHOENIX ORCHID is a fabulous colour for the day or evening time.
