I have created and launched a make-up therapy service to support people suffering cancer, illness, disabilities, facial disfigurement and to uplift and energize the elderly in retirement / nursing homes who need day to day activities.
Throughout my life I have seen people lose loved ones to cancer, including a close friend of mine who lost her Nan. In 2009 my grandpa died from cancer in my arms, I ran race for life this year in loving memory of my grandpa and to support everyone else fighting it too. I was shocked to see the huge sea of ladies all running for cancer, and even more so the amount of names written on the back of each shirt, it really shocked me into the reality of just how many people suffer from cancer, illnesses, and disabilities in the world today.
Hospitals do a fantastic job at looking after the inside, so much time is devoted to this that there is barely time to care for the outside.
Imagine being a woman, or a man who throughout their entire life has kept immaculate presentation of themselves every single day. Perfect hair, perfect make-up, beautiful clothes, and then they get cancer, their energy levels drop to such an extent that they can’t do these things anymore, or a person becomes disabled, they can’t use their hands, and all of a sudden they don’t feel like themselves any more because they don’t feel that they look the same as they used too.
I for one know that when I catch a cold, if I lay in bed without make-up on, with un-brushed hair feeling un-kept I feel even more poorly than I do if I’m up and about looking like me.
This year a client asked me if I could visit her mother in law on the day of their wedding to do her make-up. Their wedding had been brought forward because her mother in law was very poorly with cancer. Nothing could have prepared me for this moment; I hadn’t realized potentially how ill she really might be. As I walked into her bedroom she looked frail, sad and very poorly indeed, no longer having the energy to walk or to do her own makeup. I sat and talked to her gently about the makeup she loves, whilst her family prepared her wig and clothes for her son’s very special day.
All she wanted was to feel like her self for her son’s wedding.
I cleansed her, relaxed her and talked to her whilst I applied perfect make-up to her complexion. The results were incredible; as she looked into the mirror a complete look of happiness radiated her face. The feeling of being able to bring so much joy back into one person’s life was invaluable!
I have created my service to offer make-up therapy throughout the UK and all over the world, visiting hospitals; homes and many other places, bringing happiness back to those in need.
The service I offer is free to patients, I may ask for a small donation from the company using the service, to replenish products and cover travel expense.
